F.A.Q.
Is City Desk Records a “real” record label?
Well, we certainly think so, but I guess it depends on your definition of a record label. For instance, lots of record labels like to invest ludacris sums of money in your band in hopes that you will be the next ‘NSYNC. Then when you don’t sell a million records in the first six weeks they stop returning your phone calls and hang you out to dry. If that is how you define a record label, then we are not a record label.
We like to partner with bands that inspire us, bands that we believe in, and work together to help that band reach a wider audience and even make a little money. We are a record label for the digital music age.
Will you work with my band?
Maybe. Are you good? Do you play rock and roll? Do you write good songs? If so, see our submission guidelines.
Why don’t you sell to record stores?
Well, at the moment we are a small operation and believe we can operate most effectively relying on digital distribution. Hopefully we will grow and our artists will do so well as to make physical distribution more of a priority. No matter what, we are committed to digital distribution as the best way to distribute our artists.
What is your favorite record?
Good question. We really like the Clash’s London Calling, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Damn the Torpedoes and Elvis Costello and the Attractions’ This Year’s Model. Its a coin toss.
Can I get a City Desk Records artist to play my school/club/town/house?
Yes. Email us and we will work it out.
